·       October 15th, 2019 minutes. 

 

Motion to approve as read by Robert Meadows, seconded by Ron Fiel.  Vote was unanimous.

 

·       Correspondence.  $20k donation acknowledgement to Bluegrass Community Foundation (fbo Morehead Optimist Endowment) on 11/11/19

 

·       Financial Report.  Copy enclosed with Endowment update provided.   

 

Motion to accept financial report as read by Tony Cooper, seconded by Saundra Newton. Vote was unanimous.

 

·       Old Business.

 

-“Shop with a Cop”.  MOC is a Co-sponsor of this program.  POC Kim Fannin at

Morehead Police Department.  Businesses involved:  numerous (10+).  Finalizing with Eagle Financial for donation to program.  Goal is $4,000 but could go higher.  Plan in place:  Breakfast at Carl Perkins Center, bus to Wal-Mart for kids with Police escort.  Date set for 12/7/19.

 

-Boo to Drugs.  $170 candy purchased.   ~2,600 pieces distributed.  Thanks to Director & Mrs. Cooper, Shane Adkins, and Rhonda Lowe for making this a success.  Item closed.

 

-District Oratorical Contest in Morehead (April 2020).  Local competitions will

compete to enter District event.  Oral: World Without Boundaries; Essay:  Optimism-Key to Achieving Your Dreams.  Local event(s) to be held in January 2020.  POC is Saundra Newton.

 

-Cave Run Derby.  Receive first week in December.  Item closed

 

·       New Business

 

-Maysville Community and Technical College, public relations director Keith

Kappes approached President Redwine for possible Endowment Funding for Rowan Technical Students coupled with existing 4-year program at RCSHS.  After discussion,

motion made by Director Fiel to fund 2-year Technical Student (Rowan County) scholarship using MOC Endowment BCTF commencing 2020, seconded by Tony Cooper.  Vote was unanimous.

 

          -Pulltab Event for MOC Endowment.  1/1/20, 5:00-11:00 or done.  250 brochures to be ordered, radio announcement(s) and newspaper.  Motion to have event made by Tony Cooper, seconded by Wes Holland.  Vote was unanimous.

 

·       Other Business. 

 

-Website overviews:  not available at this meeting.

 

-Morehead Indoor Soccer League funding (breakdown enclosed).  President Redwine contact with Parks and Recreation Director Matt Hamilton.  Naming rights of league goes to Morehead Optimist Club if we sponsor start-up.  After discussion,  Director Cooper made motion to sponsor start-up of program for $3,100, seconded by Ron Fiel.  Vote was unanimous. 

Note:  Anticipate 400+ youth supported with this new indoor soccer league. President Redwine also commented that Optimist International has an indoor Tri-Star soccer event as we have sponsored and supported Tri-Star basketball in the past.

 

-Department of Charitable Gaming:  Fee Reduction.   Previous rate at .00957 percent.  New rate at .00771.  Treasurer did analysis of past three-quarter payments and estimated it would save over $3,400 for the reporting three quarters.  New rate begins with Quarter 4, 2019 filing due 1/31/20.

 

-Maintenance agreement at Bingo Hall.  Spouse of current contractor (Brown Cleaning Service) providing maintenance/janitorial contract is doing upkeep of building currently at no charge.  Mike Mackin approached Board to pay contractor $15.00 an hour for each facility “maintenance” task and have contractor bill MOC for hours worked in providing preventive maintenance and repair to facility.

 

Motion to accept $15.00 an hour paid for facility maintenance to current contractor (Brown Cleaning Service) made by Mike Mackin, seconded by Wes Holland.  Vote was unanimous.

 

          -Repair Camera operations.  Director Cooper has contacted Dale Fry to look at.  Item open.

 

          -Fazoli’s Holiday Meal event.  MOC has sponsored in past for needy families.

 

Motion to accept $250.00 donation made by Wes Holland, seconded by Saundra Newton.  Vote was unanimous.

 

          -Membership.  Robert Meadows approached Board on actions to take for people not paying membership dues.  Discussion led to table this item until Mike can provide copy of previous minutes where the “lunch” portion of the bill was waived.
